As a sewing/quilting enthusiast, finding the best quilting tools can be a daunting task. Too many choices can be overwhelming. Many of us have bought tools that didn’t work only to throw them in the trash.
Hopefully, this article will help you select a slotted ruler you will use for many years.
Cutting the fabric is the first step in creating beautiful quilts, therefore it is important to make accurate cuts. Much like the foundation of a house, beginning your project with accurately cut fabric will make your finished product look more professional.
One of my favorite tools is the Savvy XL Slotted Quilting Ruler…a great time saver. This XL Quilting Ruler is 24” wide and 17” tall. The XL Slotted Quilting Ruler accommodates 22” wide X 14 7/8” high fabric.
Since this slotted ruler is 22” wide, the entire width of a 42” bolt of fabric…Allowing the quilter to cut off the selvage edge and the fabric fold simultaneously.
This ruler easily cuts 45-degree or 60-degree angles. Also, there are markings for cutting perfect squares from 2” x 2” squares up to 12” x 12” squares (includes 3” x 3”, 4” x 4”, 5” x 5”, 6” x 6”, 7” x 7”, 8” x 8”, 9” x 9”, 10” x 10” and 11” x 11” squares).
Other features:
- Cut squares, diamonds, rectangles, and triangles.
- Square up and fussy cut blocks from 2” to 12” in ½” increments.
- Non-slip surface holds fabric in place.
- Made from ultra-durable material with a hanging hole for easy storage.
- Accommodates both my 45mm and 60mm rotary blades without issues.
Although some have found this ruler complicated, very detailed instructions for use are included.
Since I started using the XL Slotted Quilting Ruler, my other strip cutters have been retired. I recommend adding this ruler to your sewing room.
